At the 13th IOFTC, Everest earned 83 gold medals

Michigan, May 17. The competition, which was held on Saturday in the hall of Eastern Michigan University, attracted 310 players from eight countries and 11 different states in the United States. Both men and women competed in poomse and sparring in the senior and junior weight classes and age groups (Kyorugi).Everest, the local organizer, took home 83 gold, twenty silver, and 25 bronze medals at the event. LTA, a Taekwondo school in Michigan, earned 20 gold medals. Sunshine Martial Arts from Akron, Ohio competed in the tournament and took home 11 gold, 14 silver, and 6 bronze medals. Olympia Taekwondo Academy took home ten gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal.The Himalayan and its Harishburg, Pennsylvania branch, Global Taekwondo Academy, earned six gold, four silver, and two bronze medals.

The competition continued for ten consecutive hours on each mat.The five-mat championship looked like a festival.

Evan Franswa was named best player in the men’s tournament, while Hello Canejo was named best player in the women’s championship.One male and one woman were named best referees in the referee category. In the women’s category, Binita Puri Rai of Pennsylvania were named best referees and Thomas Sun of Michigan in the men’s category.

The championship’s referee director was former US Taekwondo CEO Bruce Harris. The referee cheer was given by Rene Levos of Australia. He’s also a referee for the Olympics. Raymond Sue was another official. He is a member of the Poomse Committee of the World Taekwondo Federation.

 

Since 2000, Portland, USA has hosted the International Open Friendly Taekwondo Championship (IOFTC). In addition to Nepal, India, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom hosted the first two editions of the competition.

 

This is the first time the championship has been hosted in a state other than Oregon, which already serves as the headquarters. The Universal United Naples Taekwondo Federation (UNTF) and the Non-Resident Nepali Association of America supported the event.
