Kathmandu May 30. Sri Lankan Foreign Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris on Monday announced that the crisis-hit country will receive 700 million U.S. dollars from the World Bank.

The announcement was made after the World Bank’s country coordinator Chiyo Kanda pledged the aid amount to the Sri Lankan government. The aid shall be supplied within the next few months.

The pledge was made in response to the request sought by Sri Lankan foreign ministry. The ministry had asked the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and other donor countries for long-term assistance.

Meanwhile, the country is seeking for alternative sustainable solutions to the severe foreign currency shortage that is preventing the import of essential goods.
