Japan’s Prime Minister Suga willing to meet North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un ‘no conditions attached’
Kathmandu. Japan’s newly-elected Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has said that he was ready to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “without attaching any conditions”.
Earlier, as Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Suga had expressed his eagerness to hold talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un once he became the prime minister.
Addressing world leaders at the UN General Assembly in New York, in a pre-recorded video speech, he reiterated his desire to meet the North Korean leader.
“Establishing constructive relations between Japan and North Korea will not only serve the interests of both sides but will also greatly contribute to regional peace and stability,” Suga said,
Suga told that the decades-old issue of North Korea’s abductions of Japanese citizens needed to be resolved at the soonest. Shinzo Abe, Japan’s prime minister prior to him, couldn’t resolve the abduction of Japanese nationals in the 1970s-80s, along with the North’s growing nuclear and missile program.
Suga has made his point that he is clear in his convictions and wants Japan to normalize relations with North Korea, as well as settle disturbing issues of the past.
