Centenarian culture expert Joshi passes away at 103

Kathmandu, October 16. Litterateur and culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi died today at the age of 103. He died at 7:09 am at KIST Hospital at Gwarko, Lalitpur.

The ‘Bangmaya Shatabdi Purush’, Joshi, was suffering from urine infection, and chest and heart issues. He also got infected with dengue more recently. Although his condition was improving initially, it deteriorated in his last hours.

Joshi and his wife had signed an agreement to donate their bodies to the hospital for research. Therefore, Joshi’s body has been donated to the hospital for research and study at the hospital.

Further, Joshi has more than 60 books on music, drama, culture, and history to his credit. He is a three-time recipient of the Madan Puraskar for his work on folk studies, Nepali numismatics and the traditions of the Karnali region. He also founded Rashtriya Nach Ghar and Araniko White Dagoba Gallery in Kirtipur.

Moreover, Joshi was the first person to receive Nepal’s electronic passport. The centenarian was a respected figure in the field of literature and culture.
