Nepal, India hold joint military exercise at Saljhandi Battle School
Kathmandu, December 29. The Nepali Army(NA) announced on Sunday that the 14-day Indo-Nepal military training held in Nepal’s Lumbini province has been completed successfully.
From December 17 to December 29, the 16th edition of the combined battalion exercise “Surya Kiran XVI” was held at the Nepali Army Battle School in the Saljhandi forest of Rupandehi.
A total of 668 soldiers from the two countries have received rigorous training on ‘counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in forests of the Himalayas.’ The troops also performed drills on humanitarian assistance, disaster rescue, and relief operations.
The Public Relations and Information Directorate of the Nepali Army confirmed the participation of 334 Nepali personnel in the bilateral exercise.
334 personnel from Bhawani Box Battalion led by Battalion Commander Lieutenant colonel Bimal Kumar Wagle participated from the Nepali side.
“Surya Kiran” was first held in 2010 in order to provide a knowledge-sharing platform for the neighboring armies who practice defense strategies in a similar geography. The major objective of the exercise is to strengthen the centuries-old relationship between the defense forces of the two neighboring countries.
