Over a million people get Hot Meals everyday in earthquake-hit Turkey, UN Says

Kathmandu, March 23. Relief efforts are being increased in areas of Turkey and Syria that were affected by earthquakes on February 6.

“Since the earthquake, 937 trucks loaded with aid materials from seven UN agencies have entered northwest Syria from Turkey,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Wednesday.

OCHA also confirmed that 34 cross-border fact-finding missions have been conducted in Northwest Syria since February 14. During these missions, people were interviewed to evaluate their needs and coordinate humanitarian efforts.

While addressing a press briefing on Wednesday, UN spokesperson confirmed that UN emergency relief coordinator, Undersecretary-General Martin Griffiths has recently concluded his second visit to the earthquake-stricken areas of Syria.

According to media reports, the UN and its humanitarian partners are providing everyday hot meals to 1.25 million people in Turkey. Also, more than half a million people are receiving water, sanitation, and hygiene support.
