Kathmandu, April 3. The Department of Labour and Occupational Safety said on Monday that Nepal has been hiring a significant number of human resources from over 100 foreign countries.

“Nepal is largely dependent on foreign workforce, hired for the implementation of big projects within the country,” a department official told reporters.

According to official data, more than 7,500 Chinese workers have obtained labour permits in Nepal since 2017, making them the largest group of foreign workers in the country.

“This is because there are more Chinese-funded projects in the country,” said Department Director General Krishna Prasad Gnawali.

In addition to Chinese workers, a total of 1,946 workers from other countries are also working on various projects across the country. These include 488 from the United Kingdom, 332 from the United States, 240 from South Korea, 230 from India, 190 from Japan, 116 from Australia, 113 from Sri Lanka, 98 from Germany, 79 from France, and 56 from Bangladesh.
