Sudurpaschim University to collect and publish folktales for cultural preservation:

Kathmandu, April 11. The Sudurpaschim University has announced its plans to collect and publish folktales of Sudurpaschim Province, in a bid to protect language, culture, and literature of the region.
University’s Vice Chancellor Ammaraj Joshi informed reporters that the University will conduct studies and research on various dimensions of regional culture and languages, which will be helpful in the development of Sudurpaschim. “It will be helpful to prosper Sudurpaschim,” Joshi noted.
Dr. Harish Chandra Bhatta, the Director of Language, Literature and Culture in the University, revealed that the folktales from nine districts were being published, collected from Sauka, Bhote, Raute, Magar and Rana Tharu communities. The publication will be in the local dialect and Nepali language.
Dr. Bhatta further shared that the collection of folktales would explain how folk culture, religions, and customs were in the region in the past. “Even the archaeology of the region would be studied,” Dr Bhatta said.
