Sauraha’s Tourism Thrives Amid Rainy Season Challenges
Chitwan, July 31: Sauraha Hotel Entrepreneurs Delighted by Surging Tourist Inflow Despite Rainy Season Risks. Sauraha’s hotel entrepreneurs are filled with joy as they witness an increasing influx of tourists in the district, even amidst the elevated travel risks during the rainy season.
While speaking about the off-season trends, July and August are traditionally considered slow months for tourist arrivals. In previous years, the shrinking business during the rainy season prompted hotel staff to take leaves.
However, this time, the off-season has seen a remarkable surge in both domestic and foreign tourists, bringing excitement to the tourism entrepreneurs. According to Ganga Giri, Chairperson of the Regional Hotel Association Chitwan, an average of 1000-1200 tourists are arriving in Sauraha daily during this season. Among them, half are foreigners, with a substantial number of Chinese tourists dominating the count.
Sauraha boasts 125 hotels with a collective capacity to accommodate 6,200 people. The increasing arrival of tourists during the off-season has thrilled the local tourism entrepreneurs.Rishi Tiwari, Chairperson of the United Elephant Operators’ Cooperative organization, informed that over 100 tourists enjoy elephant rides daily in Sauraha. Notably, Chinese tourists are particularly fond of this experience.
The current number of tourists visiting Sauraha has surpassed the figures from previous years. Suman Ghimire, former Chairperson of the Regional Hotel Association, expressed satisfaction with the tourist arrivals despite the challenging road conditions.The rising tourist inflow has instilled hope among entrepreneurs, as it indicates a potential rebound in Nepal’s tourism industry.
