Rasua, Oct 1: The Syafrubensi-Rasuwagadhi highway, which was blocked due to recent heavy rains and landslides, has resumed operation. According to Chief District Officer Vednidhi Khanal, light vehicles and freight containers started moving from 1:00 pm on Tuesday after extensive clearance efforts on Sunday and Monday.

Dozens of landslide-affected locations over the 16 km stretch between Syafrubensi and Rasuwagadhi were cleared using equipment from the road department and the landslide protection agency. Despite numerous landslides across the district, no human casualties were reported.

Over 40 container trucks bound for Kerung in Tibet and 200 containers returning from Kerung to Nepal, carrying various goods, were previously halted. Traffic has now resumed sequentially, and customs operations have restarted after a two-day disruption caused by damaged roads, power cuts, and telecommunication issues.

Landslides have also affected the Kerung highway in Tibet, causing a backlog of trucks waiting to enter Nepal. Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims returning via the Kerung route are stranded, and Chinese officials have stated that road repair in the region will take time.

Meanwhile, within the district, damage to electricity projects, rural roads, and other infrastructure continues to be assessed by the District Disaster Management Committee.
