Zelensky Ready to Step Down After Achieving Peace and NATO Membership

Kyiv, Feb 24: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he is prepared to step down—but only after securing peace and NATO membership for Ukraine. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, he emphasized that his resignation would only come once these conditions are met.
“If peace is restored in Ukraine and my country joins NATO, I am ready to step down immediately,” Zelensky said. His remarks come amid rising tensions between Russia and the United States, and he has expressed interest in meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Zelensky also responded to Trump’s recent comments, calling them undiplomatic. “I cannot describe the words Trump used as praise. If there was a dictator, he would be hurt by the word dictator. I am the legitimately elected president,” he stated.
Additionally, Zelensky urged Trump to discuss Ukraine’s security and access to natural resources before any potential meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “For Ukraine’s security concerns, a fair discussion must take place before Trump and Putin meet,” he said, stressing the need for solid security guarantees from the U.S. to protect Ukraine from Russian aggression.
