Kathmandu, May 3: The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has called off its protest following an agreement with the government. The decision came after consensus was reached between Health and Population Minister Pradeep Poudel and NMA representatives.

According to NMA General Secretary Dr. Sanjiv Tiwari, the agitation was suspended after the government committed to implementing the decision made during the 16th meeting of the Medical Education Commission. The meeting had resolved to ensure health services for all resident doctors enrolled in postgraduate programs at public institutions—a demand that sparked the protest when it was not enforced.

Additionally, both sides agreed to form a working group within 15 days to determine service facilities, holidays, and other provisions for medical professionals.

Dr. Bhim Prasad Sapkota, Chief of the Coordination Division at the Health Ministry, confirmed that continuous dialogue had created a positive environment for doctors to return to duty.
