Everest Dialogue to Focus on Climate Change and Mountain Ecosystems: Foreign Minister Deuba

Kathmandu, May 14: Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba announced that the upcoming Everest Dialogue, organized by Nepal, will serve as a collective platform to address climate change, mountain-related challenges, and the future of humanity.
Speaking at a workshop titled ‘Climate Adaptation and Resilience for South Asia’ held in Kathmandu, Minister Deuba emphasized that climate change is a global crisis, not confined to any one nation. “Our efforts alone are not enough to tackle this common problem,” she said, highlighting the importance of regional and global cooperation.
The Everest Dialogue, set to begin next Friday in Kathmandu, aims to amplify Nepal’s voice on climate justice and advocate for the immense damage Nepal has suffered due to climate-induced disasters such as glacial melts, irregular rainfall, floods, droughts, and forest degradation.
Dr. Deuba said the event will address six major climate-related issues of both regional and global significance, and will play a critical role in elevating Nepal’s international climate diplomacy.
She further stated that Nepal has enacted the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, and is actively developing strategic action plans to deal with climate risks. Nepal remains committed to the Paris Agreement, with initiatives such as green energy promotion, electric vehicle use, forest expansion (including community forests), and conservation of reservoirs and national parks, the minister added.
