Trump Extends EU Tax Talks Deadline Until 2025

Kathmandu, May 26: US President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the deadline for ongoing tax and tariff negotiations with the European Union until 2025. The update was shared via his Truth Social account.
Trump stated he agreed to the extension following a call from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who requested more time to resolve key trade issues. Von der Leyen also confirmed the call, expressing optimism about reaching a “good agreement” quickly, calling the EU-US trade relationship “the most important and close in the world.”
Earlier, Trump had imposed a 20% tariff on most EU goods, later reducing it to 10% until July 8 to allow room for negotiations. However, frustration over the pace of talks led him to threaten a 50% tariff last week. That threat now appears to be on hold with the new 2025 extension.
The move is seen as a critical opportunity to ease trade tensions between two of the world’s largest economic blocs.
