Kathmandu, July 3: South Korean lawmakers have approved changes to the rules on martial law, ensuring that Members of Parliament cannot be blocked from entering the National Assembly.

The amendment, passed on Thursday, also bars military and police personnel from entering the Assembly without the Speaker’s permission.

This change comes after a controversial incident in December last year, when former President Yoon Suk-yeol temporarily imposed martial law on December 3. On that day, military forces surrounded the National Assembly, and lawmakers were forced to vote against the move without proper access.

The new law aims to prevent such interference and protect democratic procedures in the future.
