US, Ukraine, and European Allies to Meet in Geneva Over Russia-Ukraine War
Kathmandu, Nov 23: delegation from the United States, Ukraine, and its European allies is set to meet in Geneva on Sunday for new talks regarding the Russia-Ukraine war.
The meeting follows US President Donald Trump’s proposal of a 28-point peace plan aimed at ending the conflict. The plan includes the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from parts of eastern Ukraine and freezing the country’s southern border.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Trump’s peace plan could serve as the basis for an agreement. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the situation as “one of the most difficult moments in history,” under pressure to accept the plan.
In a joint statement at the G20 summit in South Africa on Saturday, Ukraine’s allies expressed opposition to Trump’s proposal, citing concerns that it could increase the risk of an attack on Ukraine. On Saturday afternoon, nine European countries—including Britain, Japan, Canada, and the European Union—warned that the plan is only a “preliminary draft” requiring further work.
