Kathmandu, Jan 19: Senior Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has said that people of Madhes should not go to Kathmandu to demand their rights.

Speaking at a program in Janakpur on Monday, Shah said that people should visit Kathmandu only for religious and cultural purposes, not for protests and demands.

“Go around Kathmandu. Visit Pashupati and Swayambhunath. No more demanding rights. Those rights will now be available in this state,” he said.

He also claimed that a leader from Madhes would become prime minister and that people should vote at the right time to bring the right government.

“The son of Madhes will become prime minister now. All votes must be counted at the bell. The right time and the right government will come,” he said.

Referring to earlier farmers’ protests in Kathmandu, Shah said he could not address their demands at that time because he was only the mayor of Kathmandu, but now he has entered central politics.

“When farmers from Madhes came to Maitighar, I couldn’t do anything because I was only the mayor. But now I have come into central politics,” he said, adding that he would work to address farmers’ issues through national-level politics.
