NEPSE Slides by Double Digits as Most Sector Indices Turn Red

Kathmandu, Feb 8: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index recorded a double-digit decline on the trading day, falling by 10.25 points to settle at 2,698.44 points.

According to Nepal Stock Exchange, a total of 26,236,204 shares of 330 companies were traded through 111,978 transactions. The total turnover for the day stood at Rs 11.659 billion.

Sector-wise performance showed mixed results. The investment group rose marginally by 0.08 percent, while the ‘others’ group increased by 0.46 percent. However, all remaining sectoral indices closed in the red. Banking slipped by 0.14 percent, development banks by 0.92 percent, finance by 0.01 percent, hotels and tourism by 2.13 percent, hydropower by 0.31 percent, life insurance by 0.71 percent, and production and processing by 1.15 percent. Likewise, microfinance declined by 0.21 percent, mutual funds by 0.61 percent, non-life insurance by 0.32 percent, and the trading sector by 1.30 percent.

On individual stocks, Super My Hydropower Limited hit a positive circuit during the session. In contrast, Kalinchowk Darshan Limited emerged as the biggest loser, shedding 8.91 percent of its share value.

In terms of transaction value, Super Mardi Hydropower Limited led the market with trades worth Rs 563.48 million. Meanwhile, Ridi Power Company Limited topped the chart in terms of the number of shares traded, with 1.658 million shares changing hands.
