Kathmandu, April 2: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has directed all government bodies to publish and broadcast information only through state-owned media to ensure uniformity, transparency and cost control.

According to a decision dated March 30, all federal, provincial and local level public bodies have been instructed to implement the provision. Government notices, including public procurement information, must now be disseminated only through Gorkhapatra Corporation, Radio Nepal and Nepal Television.

The directive also states that payments from government or public funds will be made directly to the accounts of the concerned state media outlets. It further clarifies that publication rates and discounts must be officially approved by the respective media organizations.

With this decision, all government entities will be required to use only state-owned media for official communication and advertisements.

The move, introduced after Balendra Shah became Prime Minister, has drawn criticism from journalists and media professionals on social media, who argue that it could negatively impact private media outlets.
