Iran Raises Military Alert as Tensions With US Escalate
Kathmandu, May 27: Iran has reportedly intensified military preparations amid fears of a possible new conflict with the United States, according to a report by Al Jazeera.
The report states that Tehran has placed both the Iranian military and the Revolutionary Guards Corps on high alert while simultaneously pursuing diplomatic efforts and strengthening domestic support.
Iran is also reportedly using the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic pressure point. The waterway, through which a significant portion of the world’s crude oil supply passes, is viewed by Tehran as one of its most powerful geopolitical tools against the United States and its allies.
Iranian officials have warned that US military bases, energy infrastructure and commercial interests in the region could become targets if tensions escalate further. The Revolutionary Guards recently stated that any future US military action would face a stronger and more destructive response.
Several major developments have emerged over the past 24 hours. Iran claimed it targeted advanced US drones including MQ-9B and RQ-4 aircraft for allegedly entering Iranian airspace, and also said it fired at a US F-35 fighter jet.
Internet services in Iran have partially resumed after an 88-day nationwide shutdown, described by monitoring group NetBlocks as one of the longest internet blackouts in modern history. The outage reportedly caused major disruption to businesses and digital services.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a high-level security meeting focused on northern border tensions and Lebanon, as Israeli military operations against Hezbollah intensified.
At the same time, the US Central Command reportedly carried out strikes on an Iranian vessel allegedly laying mines near the Strait of Hormuz and on an Iranian missile facility in Bandar Abbas. CENTCOM described the operations as defensive actions aimed at protecting US interests and security in the region.
