ISC Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal Holds Bilateral Talks with the Lao National Assembly
VIENTIANE, LAOS – The Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), Ek Nath Dhakal, held a constructive bilateral meeting with the leadership of the Lao National Assembly at the Parliament House in Vientiane on July 6th 2026.
Secretary General Dhakal met with H.E. Dr. Sounthone Xayachack, Vice President of the National Assembly and Secretary of the Party Central Committee for the ruling Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP). Dr. Xayachack is recognized as one of the most prominent female political leaders in Laos.
Key Highlights of the Meeting-
Diplomatic Cooperation: The leaders discussed strengthening future relations between the Lao National Assembly and the ISC, including the potential drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on parliamentary diplomacy and institutional cooperation.
Official Invitation: Secretary General Dhakal formally handed over the invitation for the upcoming 2nd ISC, which the Lao National Assembly expressed strong interest in attending in Phnom Penh.
Capacity Building: The Vice President proposed that the ISC develop specialized training programs tailored for young and newly elected Lao parliamentarians, focusing on international cooperation and diplomatic engagement.
Delegation Members: The friendly and wide-ranging discussions covered various areas of mutual interest. The Lao delegation included several high-ranking officials from the National Assembly, while Secretary General Dhakal was accompanied by the ISC Director of International Cooperation, Mr. Hajime Saito.
Secretary General Dhakal is a former lawmaker and served as Minister in the Government of Nepal. He is serving as ISC Secretary General since last year .
