Cabinet reshuffled: Bishnu Paudel gets Finance, Ishwor Pokhrel relieved of Defense

Kathmandu. The long-speculated reshuffle of the Council of Ministers has taken place today (Wednesday) President Bidya Devi Bhandari has made some new appointments and changed the portfolios of some ministers on the recommendation of Prime Minster KP Sharma Oli.

The Ministry of Finance has been handed over to Nepal Communist Party general secretary Bishnu Prasad Paudel. Krishna Gopal Shrestha has been made the Minister for Urban Development and Leela Bhakta Shrestha the Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare.

A major change is the relieving of Deputy PM Ishwor Pokhrel from Ministry of Defense. PM Oli has kept the ministry with himself. Pokhrel has been given the responsibility to look after the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Parbat Gurung, who had been handling the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare earlier, has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The Cabinet now has 25 members, the maximum number of ministers allowed by the constitution.
