21-year-old woman raped inside ICU of a private hospital in India
Kathmandu. A 21-year-old woman who had been admitted in the ICU of Fortis Hospital in Gurugram (previously known as Gurgaon), India for treatment of tuberculosis has been raped. According to the police, a member of the staff had raped her while she was unconscious and on ventilator support. She was able to report the incident to her father through a handwritten letter only when she gained consciousness on October 27.
The Police suspect that the incident took place between October 21(when she was admitted) and October 27 (when she gained consciousness). The patient is a resident of Mahendragarh and is still undergoing treatment at the hospital. KK Rao, the Commissioner of Police, has notified that police protection has been provided to the patient.
According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Usha Kundu, the suspect Vikas, whose name was uttered by the victim to her father, is an outsourced staff. They have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code and have been started the investigation process, before arresting the suspect.
The hospital also has conducted a separate investigation and is co-operating with the police regarding the case.
