Kathmandu. In order to protect passengers from paying exorbitant fares, the Kathmandu Valley Metropolitan Traffic Police has started to take action against public vehicles that do not have a travel fare poster on them.

Senior Police Superintendent Bhim Prasad Dhakal, Head of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, informed that they were receiving reports that public transports were charging excessive fares, not following reserved seats rule, and keeping more passengers than capacity and violating traffic laws.

On the first day of the Inspection, the details of the fares were pasted to 429 vehicles. The department has also requested the travellers to dial the hotline number 103 in case of any assistance.

The department has also started a campaign against vehicles that make loud noises, keep doors open and do not follow health standards.

Earlier this month, Traffic Police in Illam also inspected 115 vehicles when they received reports of passengers paying double fares.
