Nepali teacher in India commits suicide after students’ complaints
Kathmandu. A Nepalese teacher has committed suicide after seven students of a residential school in India fled from the school accusing their teacher of corporal punishment. The 25-year-old teacher of Shakya Academy, a Buddhist school in Dehradun, India, committed suicide after the after facing accusations. As per the Times of India, the police have begun an investigation based on the teacher’s suicide note.
A few days prior, seven students of the school had run away from Dehradun to come to their home in Nepal. The students had posted a live video on social media alleging that one of their teachers had beaten them when they asked for leave to go home during the festival of Dashain. The teacher who committed suicide left a note stating that he felt guilty, having faced such allegations. The Nepali embassy in India has also been informed about this.
Police are also investigating the students’ claims in the video. On October 27 and 28, seven Nepali students had fled from the school in a taxi to Banbasa, close to the Nepalese border. Four of them had managed to go home but the remaining three were stopped at the Banbasa checkpoint and brought back to the school.
The deceased teacher had gone to pick up the three students. The teacher had then locked himself in a room and hung himself to death soon after returning to school with the three students on Saturday.
