‘Embassy shall not verify demand letter until Malaysia starts taking workers’- Nepalese Ambassador to Malaysia
Kathmandu. The Embassy of Nepal in Malaysia has denied to verify any demand letters for migrant workers until further notice from the Malaysian authorities. According to the Nepali Ambassador to Malaysia Uday Raj Pandey, due to COVID-19, the Malaysian Government has denied to take in any workers because of which they have announced that they will not be verifying any such letters for the Nepali workers.
Ambassador Pandey said, “The government here has announced that it will not bring in foreign workers till December. We will only verify the demand letter if foreign workers are allowed to come.” He also further commented that no employer has come to the Embassy with a new demand letter, adding that they will deny the forwarded requests.
Foreign workers will be allowed to enter Malaysia from January 2021. However, Ambassador Pandey has mentioned that Malaysia was not in favor of taking foreign workers immediately because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Labor had sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the Nepali Embassies in the labor destination countries did not verify the demand letter. The letter also contained a request for the concerned Embassies to verify the demand letters as soon as possible.
