Kathmandu. Mt Ama Dablam in the Everest region has been attracting mountaineers this season amidst the corona pandemic.  Qatari prince, Abdullah, has already returned to his  country after a successful climb and now renowned British climber Kenton Cool is at the base camp.

Cool, who hails from Gloucestershire, South West England, has scaled Mt Everest 14 times. He is the record holder of most summits of the world’s highest peak from Britain.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai reached the base camp and added enthusiasm to the team having photos taken with them. He told that he was pleased to meet a 14-time Mt Everest summiteer at the Ama Dablam base camp. He added in his Facebook wall that the tourism industry was gaining pace slowly and that the private sector and the government should work together to expedite the process.

Former chair of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) Ang Chhiring Sherpa noted that Ama Dablam is one of the most beautiful mountains of the world. “Ama Dablam was more famous than Everest in the past. Many foreigners have climbed it,” he added.

It is estimated that 10 to 12 mountaineers will climb Nepali mountains this season, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. 1,210 foreigners had visited Nepal to climb the mountains in the autumn of 2019.
