Chinese Chang’e-5 to bring 2 kgs of samples from moon
Kathmandu. The China National Space Administration (CNSA) on Tuesday announced that the Chinese Chang’e-5 spacecraft has successfully landed on the earth facing side of the moon.
The 8.2-tonne Chang’e-5 was launched on November 24 from the Wenchang spaceport in southern China. After a week, it landed on the preselected area on the north of the Mons Rumker in Oceanus Procellarum, also known as the Ocean of Storms, on Tuesday at 11:11 pm China Standard Time (CST).
The robotic lunar probe is preparing for 48 hours of work on the surface of the moon, after which it will return back in mid-December with about 2 kg of moon soil sample in a sealed container.
China has conducted successful moon landings of Chang’e-3 in 2013 and Chang’e-4 on 2019.
