Canadian PM Trudeau reiterates his support for farmers’ protest in India
Kathmandu. Indian farmers have been protesting in the outskirts of New Delhi since a few weeks against the new farming laws brought in by the Modi government. This movement has created quite diverse opinions around the world.
More recently, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has extended his support twice on the movement. Trudeau said, “Canada will always stand up for the right of peaceful protests anywhere around the world. And we are pleased to see moves towards de-escalation and dialogue.” Earlier, the Canadian envoy to India was summoned by the Indian authorities and warned the envoy that it could damage the ties between India and Canada, when Trudeau gave similar statements on the issue.
The support from the Canadian prime minister has garnered a lot of debates and mixed reactions from the public. India and Canada had initially had warm relations, since maximum of migrants in Canada hailed from Punjab in India. But with changing time and situations, the strength of these ties is questionable.
