Private home cams hacked to stream police raids in USA
Kathmandu, January 2. The FBI has warned that hackers have been streaming police raids in cameras of private households in an attempt to make hoax calls to authorities. These kinds of crimes have been termed as “swatting” in which suspects trick armed police or other emergency responders to go to the home of a victim.
Hacked credential lists are often purchased and sold into illicit markets. In order to see where passwords have been reused, criminals also run the information stolen from one service via others. Many cases of such hoax calls have been recorded in Florida, Virginia and Georgia.
It is said that hackers uses a two-step authentication, meaning that system owners can only access their accounts from a new machine by entering a code provided by email or sending a text message to them.
FBI has advised people using online platforms to use complex passwords to keep their systems protected.
