Three teenage girls rescued from being trafficked
Kathmandu, Jan 7 : Three girls of Sankhuwasabha Makalu Rural Municipality aged between 15 to 16-years were rescued as they were being taken to India. They were rescued from Pashupatinagar, the key border point of East Ilam, by a joint team of Maiti Nepal, the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police on Tuesday.
As they were being taken to India in a taxi, the team interrogated the children. It has been disclosed that they were being lured into work. The families of the three rescued girls have been called and the girls have been handed over to them, according to Hom Khatiwada of Maiti Nepal Pashupatinagar.
Lachen Sherpa of Sankhuwasabha, currently residing in Kathmandu, offered the girls work in Kathmandu and for that purpose, they were kept in Kathmandu for a week.
Sherpa had mentioned in a telephone call that she was searching for a job in Darjeeling, India, that would fetch a monthly salary of NRs.9,000. In recent times, human trafficking from Ilam’s border checkpoints has been on the rise.
