India is ready to save humanity: PM Narendra Modi
Kathmandu. After a high-level meeting led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has decided to launch its first Covid-19 vaccination campaign on January 16.
According to media reports, India will vaccinate 30 million health workers and 270 million elderly citizens in the first phase by July 2021.
“Today, India is ready to save humanity with two ‘Made in India’ Covid-19 vaccines,” PM Modi said while speaking at a digital Convention on Saturday.
With over 10.4 million COVID-19 cases, India has become the second-highest COVID infected country in the world. Moreover, India is also suffering from its rapidly shrinking economy. Therefore, with a population of over one billion, the general vaccination campaign would be very complex and challenging.
India’s first indigenous COVID-19 vaccine “COVAXIN” developed by Bharat Biotech has been approved by the team of experts. Earlier this week, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Biotech, Krishna Ella said that 200 million doses of Indian-made “COVAXIN” vaccines are ready and the number will reach 150 million by July-August.
Bharat Biotech has been working in the field of vaccine for a long time. It has developed vaccines for H1N1, Rotavirus, Rabies, typhoid among others.
