The Trump government has made its way to revoke the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) of immigrants, as the court has granted permission to do so. Immigrants from Nepal, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Sudan and Honduras are going to be evicted from the country through this decision. According to the New York Times, there are over four hundred thousand immigrants from these countries living in US. Ever since Donald Trump came to power, he had been seeking to evict the immigrants, but this issue had some legal complexities.

Trump had claimed that removing the TPS for the immigrants came under his jurisdiction. The TPS has been granted to people who were victims of civil war or natural disasters in their home countries. Many Nepalese people were provided with this status in the aftermath of the massive earthquake in 2015. Immigrants from as far as ten countries live in the US under this provision.

The ninth circuit court from US made this decision through a majority of 2-1 vote. This decision requires immigrants to leave the US on their own within the given deadline of March 5, 2021. The immigrants of El Salvador will have a deadline until November 2021. If they do not leave within the stipulated deadline, the government can deport them to their home countries. The Trump administration has claimed that the immigrants were granted TPS because of war and natural disasters in their home country; now the situation has changed and hence they must return to their native countries. If Trump loses the upcoming elections, then this decision could be changed as well.

Immigrants from these countries have put up their case in an eleven-judge appellate court. They even seek to go to the Supreme Court if they do not get justice. Approximately, around two hundred thousand immigrants already have second generation of their families living in US. The TPS was started by the Bush administration in 1990.
