Amidst the pandemic, Tribhuvan University strides forward

Kathmandu. Tribhuvan University (TU) has published a research journal on the impact of COVID-19 on various sectors of health, education, economy and society. Minister for Education, Science and Technology and TU Vice-Chancellor Giriraj Mani Pokharel released the journal through online means. It has played a leading role in the field of education and public health in the complex situation of the ongoing pandemic.

The university has made efforts to take sturdy strides to get through the situation. PCR machines were installed at Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, Kirtipur and Surkhet under the special initiative of TU. In coordination and cooperation with the Government of Nepal, the initiative has also played an important role in clearing the orthopedic and ENT wards of the Teaching Hospital to avail services as a Covid-19 unit with ICU facility.

About 200 health workers are active in the health services. Additionally, health experts of the university are playing a leading role in the construction and expansion of Covid-19 laboratories across the country and are contributing to make the country safe from the risk of the devastating virus.

TU has also adopted an alternative method of teaching and learning to sustain in the challenging situation of the coronavirus infection and to amalgamate with the changing times. Classes have begun by providing 175 Zoom licenses to manage online classes by creating conditions for taking classes from home. Learning from the significant achievements of the internationalization of education, TU has taken five lakh licenses from the Microsoft Teams and made the classrooms more organized.

The Center for Information Technology Innovation has been established at the central level to make policy decisions to move the teaching-learning process through modern technology and to extend the access of information technology to the dedicated campuses and agencies. In order to organize all the bodies of the university in one domain, the work of creating subdomains of more than 130 bodies has also proved successful.
