The Ministry of Religious Affairs of Pakistan on Friday decided to open the Kartarpur corridor. The site is visa-free, allowing people from either country to visit the area. India, however seemed reluctant to open from its side citing concerns related to Covid-19.

Pakistan will allow visitors from India to cross the corridor as per the bilateral protocols. Gurudwara Darbar Sahib, a pilgrimage site at the corridor has many visitors from both sides of the border. The pilgrimage site was opened in 2019 to pay homage to the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev. India had closed it down since March 15, due to the pandemic and had no intention of opening until the necessary health precautions were taken. Ministry of External Affairs of India spokesperson Anurag Shrivastava said that the decision of re-opening the corridor will be taken by keeping the Covid-19 protocols in mind and after the easing of the restrictions.
