BBC. North Korea held a military parade on Saturday. The pre-dawn spectacle, organized on the occasion of  the 75th anniversary of the Workers’ Party, was attended by leader Kim Jong-un.

North Korea generally uses its parades to show off new missiles and weaponry. BBC mentions that the Saturday event boasted of an array of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Foreigners and foreign media were strictly prohibited from attending and covering the function. North Korea’s policy regarding such events limits information sources to the edited pictures and videos provided by the regime.

Images released by the government showed Kim Jong-un wearing a grey Western-style suit, receiving flowers from children. In his speech, he said North Korea would continue to “strengthen” its military for “self-defence and deterrence”.

As per BBC, for weeks, satellite imagery had shown thousands of people practicing for Saturday’s parade and foreign officials in Pyongyang had been restricted from travelling near the event site.
