Mumbai. After several Hindu groups including Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha protested against the title of Laxmmi Bomb, alleging that it was an insult to Goddess Laxmi by linking her name to “Bomb”, Shri Rajput Karni Sena had sent a legal notice to the production team demanding a change in the title.
Trade Analyst, Joginder Tuteja tweeted that the film went for its censor certificate on Thursday and after a discussion with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the makers decided to change the title to Laxmii, in consideration of the sentiments of its viewers.
Following the release of the trailer two weeks ago, the film was accused of promoting love-Jihad. Laxmii is the remake of a 2011 Tamil film, Kanchana and is set to release on Hotstar Multiplex, Over the Top(OTT) market next month.
Director of the film, Raghava Lawrence stated that the Tamil film was named after the main character Kanchana. Kanchana means gold which has a direct relationship with mother Lakshmi. Also, the main character of the film is a transgender and she is as powerful as a bomb. So they had previously named the movie as “Laxmii Bomb”.
