President Trump fires Defense Secretary Mark Esper

Kathmandu. President Donald Trump has fired United States Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper from his post. He made the announcement through his Twitter handle.

According to an article in the BBC, the decision comes after the president had a major fallout with the defense secretary. The president and Esper had disagreements the racial protests earlier this year. Esper has given his resignation. He wrote, “I serve my country in deference to the Constitution, so I accept your decision to replace me.” He further elaborated in an interview, “The president’s going to — he’s very transparent in terms of what he wants. And he’s been very clear about his views … I’m not trying to make anybody happy.”

He wrote on Twitter, “I am pleased to announce that Christopher C. Miller, the highly respected Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (unanimously confirmed by the Senate), will be Acting Secretary of Defense, effective immediately.” He further added, “Chris will do a GREAT job! Mark Esper has been terminated. I would like to thank him for his service.”

Christopher Miller, was seen at the Department of Defense headquarters shortly after Trump made the announcement.

James Mattis, predecessor to Esper had also resigned in 2018 following disagreements with the President. Trump is still in control until January 20, next year when Biden is sworn in.
