Prince of Qatar and his team summit Mount Ama Dablam

Kathmandu. The Prince of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani and his team have successfully climbed the 6,814-meter-high Mount Ama Dablam. According to the Department of Tourism, a 13-member team including the Prince reached the peak of Ama Dablam at 11:20 a.m. this morning.

Department Director Mira Acharya, who is also head of the Department’s mountaineering branch, confirmed the news. She also mentioned that this is the first ascent of the autumn season. The trek of the six-climber-team, including the Prince, was managed by Himalayan Guides. Some American and Canadian climbers also took part in the trek.

According to the liaison officer posted at Mount Ama Dablam, six foreigners and seven Nepalis have successfully climbed the mountain. In early October, a Royal Force team, including Prince Mohamed Hamad Mohamed Al Khalifa of Bahrain, had returned after climbing the 8,163-meter Mount Manaslu.

As per the latest details given by the Department, seven climbing teams have been given permission to climb this Autumn. A total sum of NRs. 3.3 million 74 thousand 82 have been collected in royalties from the ascents. Two climbing teams in Mt. Manaslu, two in Mt. Ama Dablam, one in Mt. Baruntse, one in Mt. Gyalzen and two in Mt. Himlung have taken permission for the ascent.
