US invites CTA president to White House, China irked
Kathmandu. The USA has invited the president of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) to the White House, an action never done before in the 60-year history of the CTA. Lobsang Sangay, president of the CTA has visited the White House on Saturday.
The invitation of Sangay to the White House has been taken as the United States’ direct support to the freedom of Tibet. For decades, the US had not given recognition to the Tibetan government-in-exile, representing free Tibet. Last month, Sangay became the first CTA official to be invited to the US Foreign Department to meet Assistant Foreign Secretary and Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Robert Destro.
It is a great honor to be the first political head of the Central Tibetan Administration to formally enter the White House https://t.co/nbdVONjlmg

Lobsang Sangay had met the officials of the White house dozens of times in the past 10 years after he became the president of the CTA in 2011. All those meetings had been arranged in some secluded and undisclosed places; however, the recent meeting has been announced and conducted formally in the White House.
This political development has taken place at a time when the worsening US-China trade, China’s relationship with neighboring countries, international cry for human rights in China and the corona pandemic has created a very unfavorable situation for China. China has made a vehement protest and told the US not to interfere in China’s internal affairs.
