HIV control ‘significant achievement’ says Minister Dhakal

Kathmandu. Minister for Health and Population Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal has told that Nepal has made a significant progress in controlling HIV infection.

Extending his best wishes on 33rd World AIDS Day, Minister Dhakal noted that HIV AIDS also spread like the COVID-19 pandemic in the 1990s. Nepal has succeeded to keep the disease within manageable limits, he said.

According to the minister, Nepal has decreased the new infection rate by 94 percent from 2010 to 2019 while the average rate world over during the time is 23 percent. The rate of death die to aids has also decreased by 85 percent in Nepal compared to the average 39 percent in the world.

Minister Dhakal said that it has become more challenging to provide health service to the HIV infection risk group in the current COVID 19 crisis, mentions National News Agency (RSS). A free insurance program has been launched for the HIV infected and their family members currently.

He also informed that the ministry was working in a planned way to eradicate AIDS by 2030, as Nepal is committed to accomplishing  the Sustainable Development Goals,.

The minister urged all to show their commitment and solidarity in the campaign against HIV AIDS and work accordingly.
