Kathmandu. The danger of split looming over Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is becoming more distinct after each new meeting they hold to resolve the problem in the party. The recent secretariat meeting on Tuesday showed the increasing animosity between the two chairs and hence the less chance of the dispute being resolved.

The united flight the then NCP United Marxist and Leninist and NCP Maoist took, instead of rising to a soaring height is having a nose dive, heading for a crash. The bitter truth is that none of the leaders is trying for a safe landing to save the party.

The two parties had opted for unification last year  to strengthen the mainstream communist politics, but a year later, most of the leaders in the party themselves say, the party is moving towards division again.

The two chairs, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, arguing and bickering at each other at the secretariat meeting yesterday showed that whatever little cordiality was left between the two has also  been lost.

At present there are six documents presented at the secretariat table for discussion: two letters written to each other by the two chairs, the internal directive of the party, two separate political proposals of the two chairs and the application forwarded by the five secretariat members including Prachanda to call a secretariat meeting.

The Tuesday meeting of the NCP Secretariat was supposed to discuss on the two separate political proposals presented by the two chairs. NCP Chair and Prime Minister Oli, however, in the beginning of the meeting told that Prachanda’s proposal could not be discussed, as it was not a political document but the representation of a weak complainant’s mentality expressing inferiority complexes. Moreover, it did not follow the proper method for its presentation, he said. PM Oli demanded that Prachanda apologized for his mistake.

A secretariat member informed that Oli’s comments infuriated Prachanda and they had verbal altercation. Prachanda has accused Oli of being a supporter of the corrupts and having a bourgeois mentality among dozen others , on the other hand, Oli has alleged Prachanda of working under foreign influence. The environment of the secretariat meeting was very depressing, the secretariat member said.

Prime Minister Oli argued that such accusations, claims and counterclaims would just make the meetings futile and provide wind to the sail of divisionism in the party. When Prachanda notified that they would have a meeting on Wednesday too, PM Oli made a sign showing his unwillingness to attend the meeting, the secretariat member said. The meeting on Wednesday is considered to be an important one.

NCP is having yet another secretariat meeting on Wednesday and the permanent committee meeting has already been scheduled for Thursday. The more the meetings in NCP, the deeper the rift between the leaders, it seems.
