Tokyo. Japan is planning to end the sales of petrol cars in the coming 15 years to meet its objective of maintaining carbon neutrality by 2050.

Japan is revealing its new policy next week according to the Japanese media. Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbun states that Japan has put the sale of electrical and hybrid vehicles at its top priority.

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga had announced in October to take step towards placing Japan among the carbon neutral countries by 2050. After Suga released his policy, it had put  large pressure on manufacturers and factories in Japan to draft plans to decrease carbon emission.

The UN and different environmental activists have welcomed Japans initiation. Japan has been largely reliant upon fossil fuels till now. The government has not put forth its plan in detail as to what alternatives would be used in place of fossil fuels.

The Japanese government has targeted to make 50-50 sales of low carbon emitting cars and electrical and hybrid cars by 2030. The market share of low carbon emitting cars has reached about 40 percent in 2019.
