Kathmandu. The dry port being established at Chobhar in Kathmandu at a cost of 1 billion 660 million rupees is nearing its completion. After the government resolved the problem of land acquisition, the construction process has sped up for the ‘Kathmanu Container Freight Station’.

Yubak Dongol, chief of the project, states that the government has put the dry port in top priority and it would be ready for operation by April 2021. Currently, 60 percent of the construction work has been completed, he added.

The dry port is being constructed at the loan assistance from the World Bank. The hassles in land acquisition and the COVID-19 pandemic led to the delay and consequently the extension of the completion period twice by 6-6 months each time.

The project conceptualized in 2010 has eventually materialized and it would facilitate the international trade of Nepal after its completion. The government has plans to use the port  linking it with road service from Raxaul of India, Kerung railways from China and the external ring road of Kathmandu.
