US President Biden invites 40 world leaders to climate summit

Kathmandu, March 27. US President Joe Biden has invited 40 leaders from around the world to the Leaders’ Summit on Climate.

The two day event will be held on April 22-23 and will be telecasted live for public viewing.

Leaders invited for the summit include Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Saudi Arabia King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering.

The White House has revealed that a key objective of both the Leaders’ Summit and the COP26 will be to push efforts for limiting warming to 1.5 degree Celsius.

It is said that Biden has encouraged leaders to take this summit as an opportunity to demonstrate how their country is going to tackle climate change.The summit is also set to address the role of nature-based solutions in achieving net-zero by 2050.
