U.S. Department of Defense provides 10 motorized rescue boats to Nepali Army

Kathmandu, June 30. As a part of the long-term commitment of the United States to Nepal, the US Department of Defense(DoD) supplied four motorized rescue boats to the Nepali Army.

According to the official statement issued by the US embassy, four 17.5-foot boats with 40-horsepower motors were delivered to improve the military’s capacity to respond to floods and other natural catastrophes.

Office of Defence Cooperation Chief at U.S embassy Major Myke Whyte handed over the boats to Brigadier Ramnath Sharma of Nepali Army during a ceremony organized at the Nepali Army ordnance depot.

This is the second batch of boats sponsored by a 1-million-dollar foreign military sales grant. In November last year, DoD provided 4 seventeen-foot and 2 thirteen-foot rescue rafts to the Army.

The embassy posted on its official Facebook page, “We recognize the vital role of the Nepali Security Forces in any disaster response and remain committed to helping increase Nepal’s capacity to conduct humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations across the country.”

The Nepali Army now has the following number of boats, provided by the US Department of Defense.
