NASA invites applicants for year long mission on Mars like habitat

Kathmandu, August 8. US space agency NASA has invited applications for for four people to live in a Mars-like habitat to prepare them for the real-life challenges of the mission on the red planet.

NASA started taking applications on Friday for participants to live for a year in Mars Dune Alpha, a 1,700-square-foot Martian habitat created by a 3D-printer that is inside a building at Johnson Space Center in Houston.

NASA said in a statement, “In preparation for the real-life challenges of future missions to Mars, Nasa will study how highly motivated individuals respond under the rigor of a long-duration, ground-based simulation”

According to a statement from NASA, the application is open for US citizens or permanent residents aged 30-55. Other criteria include a master’s degree in a STEM field such as engineering, mathematics, physical or computer science. The applicant also must be a non-smoker, proficient in English and have a good physical health.

Additionally NASA is looking for people close to astronauts, as in the past, a Russian pretend Mars mission called Mars 500 didn’t end well, partly because the people were too much like everyday people, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield told AP.
