Kathmandu, August 20. Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the African country will be temporarily hosting Afghan refugees.

The government has not released any statistics on the number of refugees. However, local media reports suggest the number be around 2,000.

East Africa Refugee Relief indicated that 500 Afghans will arrive at Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, the US administration urged its international allies to offer emergency shelter for the affected Afghan population, whose country had been seized by the Taliban.

With approximately 1.5 million refugees and asylum seekers, the majority of whom are from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda is one of the world’s greatest refugee-hosting countries.
