Kathmandu, August 21. On Friday, Bolivian authorities announced that former President Jeanine Anez will be facing a trial in connection with the deaths of 20 opposition protesters in 2019.

At least 22 protesters were killed in November 2019, during violent clashes between opposition party protesters and security forces.

Earlier this week, the Organization of American States (OAS) published a report, identifying the incidents as “massacres.”

Attorney-general Juan Lanchipa said that legal documents were presented to the Supreme Court that claimed that “the Bolivian security forces carried out a massacre when Anez seized control following Evo Morales’ resignation.”

As per the Bolivian Penal code, Genocide in this manner is punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.
