Monetary Assistance Provided to Families Affected by Rukum West Earthquake
Tribeni (Rukum West), Nov 27: In the aftermath of the November 3 earthquake in Rukum West, monetary assistance has been distributed to the families of seven individuals who lost their lives in the disaster. The aid distribution was temporarily delayed due to documentation issues but has now been successfully carried out.
Hari Prasad Pant, the District Disaster Management Committee Coordinator and Chief District Officer, disclosed that a total of Rs 8.3 million has been allocated to support the bereaved families. The recipients encompass 10 families from Sanobheri rural municipality-6, 37 from Aathbiskot municipality, one from Chaurjahari municipality, and one each from Rolpa and Bardiya.
Additionally, the families of three individuals from Salyan, who lost their lives in Aathbiskot, were provided with monetary aid from the District Administration Office in Salyan. The financial assistance was funded by the federal government, following an announcement of Rs 200,000 for each bereaved family and an additional Rs 100,000 for families suffering the loss of more than one member, as stated by Assistant Chief District Officer Prabesh Badhuwal.
To address the post-quake situation, the federal government allocated Rs 50 million to the district, with the remaining funds slated for the management of temporary shelters for the affected and their rehabilitation. The earthquake, measuring 6.4 on the Richter Scale with its epicenter at Ramidanda of Jajarkot district, resulted in 53 fatalities in Rukum West, including five individuals from outside the district.
